T. A. Straub

T.A. Straub (born 1976) is interested in the cultural origins, the modes of action, and the use of symbols and objects. They form the basis of his artistic activities. The creation of the artwork in a religious ritual, the historic link between art and religion is given special importance here and serves as the theoretical substance of his works. Straub assembles his sculptures of simple objects (stool, tripod, light box, newspaper clipping) as well as symbolically charged things (eight star, aureole, flag mounting, wands, magic-hoods, masks). After occupying himself with these things whose use he is often intuitively conscious of, Straub combines the self-designed and produced objects with found or modified objects from everyday life. His arrangements develop their own artistic tension especially through the combination and juxtaposition of various materials (sacred - profane, natural - constructed, produced - found). In the exhibition “into it” Straub shows the works “Achtstern Mandala” (Eight Star Mandala) as well as “Vorletzte Szene” (Next to the Last scene) from 2006 and additionally the new site-specific window installation “Zwei Fenster verbarrikadiert” (Two Windows Barricaded) from 2007 that plays with the conditions of the tower window.
